  • Half a cup of sugar or jaggery
  • One-fourth of a cup of butter or vegetable oil

How to make it?

  1. Mix the flour, corn starch, salt, baking soda and baking powder together.
  2. Take a bowl and mix the sugar and oil in it. Softened butter can be used instead of oil. Take a beater and beat this mixture well till the mixture is creamy.
  3. Squeeze three oranges for a cup of juice. If oranges are not available, you can use store-bought orange juice too. If you are using fresh oranges to create the juice then you make sure you prepare the juice shortly before putting it into the sugar and oil mixture. Keeping orange juice in the open for long can make it bitter.
  4. Now, add the orange juice to the mixture of sugar and oil.
  5. Now, add to it the flour and orange zest. If you want the flavour of orange to be pronounced, you can also use orange essence.
  6. Now, beat the ingredients properly so that no lumps remain.
  7. Your next step would be to take a cake pan of 7 x 4 inches. Line this pan properly. As an alternative, you can also grease it with oil. Now, pour the batter into this pan.
  8. Knock the bottom of the pan against the kitchen counter a few times so that all the bubbles inside the batter burst.
  9. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. And put the cake pan with the batter inside it. Baking starts!
  10. Once the cake is done, let it cool for some time. Serve it with tea or coffee.
